#3 Carl Weiss, writer
'No bookshop, but my couch with the windows open, listening to the rain while reading'
Carl Weiss is a Cologne-born, Berlin-based writer who allowed the transformative power of writing to redirect his life. After attending Burning Man, Carl realised that he needed to reconnect with his creativity, which in turn, realigned his life path according to his true core values. His first novel is currently being edited and polished for future publication.
Where do you write?
Wherever possible. I use my laptop, especially when I'm traveling abroad.
Morning writer or late-night words?
During the day, when everyone else is busy working.
Coffee, tea, or any other drinks?
Coffee with milk.
Something to nibble while you write?
Chocolate or sometimes olives.
What's your most tempting distraction?
Reading the news.
Any desk essentials?
Some inspirations for my stories: souvenirs, stones, and stickers. But the less the better, as you can see.
What's on the speakers?
Electronic beats that I don't know (yet).
Writer uniform?
Fully dressed as if I'd go to work.
What are your pre-writing rituals?
Cleaning up, reading the news (so I won't be tempted during writing), and putting the phone on flight mode.
Perfect bookshop to hide on a rainy day?
No bookshop, but my couch with the windows open, listening to the rain while reading.
The best word in the English language?
I write in German as my English is not sufficient for any literary attempt, but the word that first crossed my mind was 'sophistication' - and I like it.
