In 2022, we featured 15 writers: 5 poets, 2 artists, and 8 writers. Thank you so much for keeping up with my irregular schedule and for each one of you who opened an edition of That Poetry Thing. And thank you to each featured writer who has also kept up with my irregular schedule and annoying follow-ups.
Let's do the only thing left to do in December: retrospectives!
The biggest writing distraction for writers featured in 2022? Phones and cleaning the house. Their favourite drink to have while writing? Coffee (45%). Alcohol, surprisingly, was the choice of only 3 writers. What happened to Hemingway's ‘write drunk, edit sober’?
Not that I agree with it…
And to debate writing cliches, 50% declared themselves night owls, while the remaining 50% like to write first thing in the morning. I still think of Charlotte's quote in newsletter #9: everything good, focused, and pure happens in the morning.
Afternoons, on the other hand, are for newsletters and admin only.
And as a final note of inspiration, here's a kitsch word cloud of all the favourite words mentioned throughout the year:
